Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), achieved another exemplary success in university–industry collaboration. In line with the vision of transforming the university's academic knowledge into economic value, AlgBe R&D Biotechnology Consulting Industry and Trade Inc. officially launched the investment process through the equity-based crowdfunding method.

Under the leadership of MAKÜ faculty members Prof. Dr. Rıza Akgül and Assoc. Dr. Füsun Akgül, the initiative implemented within the MAKÜ BAKA Technopark meets investors through the Fonlabüyüsün platform, authorized by the Capital Markets Board (SPK) and operated by Halk Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş. In this respect, AlgBe leads the way in bringing biotechnology initiatives born from university-based academic knowledge to the economy with a transparent and institutional investment model in Turkey.

From specialization in livestock to the global market

AlgBe Biotechnology was established as a tangible outcome of the studies conducted in the field of livestock within the scope of the “Regional Development Focused Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program” carried out with the support of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey Strategy and Budget Department and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

The spirulina-based products developed in the MAKÜ Microalgae Biomass Production Laboratory, established within the scope of the project numbered 2017K12-41003 “A Green Source as an Innovative Food and Feed Additive: Microalgae (YeYeM)”, were transformed from academic research into commercial products and introduced into the entrepreneurship ecosystem. The process was successfully managed under the coordination of the MAKÜ Technology Transfer Office (TTO).

Rector Dalgar: “Our priority is to transform science into social benefit”

MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, in his evaluation regarding the investment process, emphasized that transferring academic knowledge to the real sector is one of the university's main strategies. Dalgar highlighted that AlgBe is a strong scientific initiative born from the university, stating that this model serves as an inspiring example for both entrepreneurial academics and investors.

Dalgar also noted that AlgBe is one of the first models in Turkey to commercialize through crowdfunding in the field of academic entrepreneurship, stating that the initiative will make significant contributions to regional development and value-added production.

From science to production, from production to investment

AlgBe Biotechnology aims to develop microalgae-based sustainable products, reduce the carbon footprint with environmentally friendly production systems, and offer domestic, high value-added solutions in the food and health sectors.

With the funds to be provided within the scope of the investment campaign;

  • Strengthening of R&D infrastructure,
